Indoor Track Recap
March 2013
Regardless of if you have been following the MSU Running Club this indoor season, you may or may not know just how well it has gone for the Spartans. They competed at two varsity meets and two club invitationals throughout January and February. Since I have written more than enough about MSU RC, here are some stats which are hopefully easier to follow:
27: the number of Spartans who competed in indoor track this year.
20: the new club records that were set by the aforementioned Spartans.
4th and 5th: the places that the women and men took at the Illinois Club Relays, the largest club invitational in the country. 14 clubs from 6 states were in attendance.
8: The number of events at Illinois that Christian Marier tried his hand at. Pat Frahm and Jordan Prather were close behind with 7 and 5 events respectively.
Filthiest Kick: The last 200m of any of Josh Klebba’s races.
Dirtiest Duo: Margaret Levasseur and Steph Schmidt running stride for stride in the Mile at
Illinois. They took 3rd and 4th and were both timed at 5:27.
Dankest Relay: Steph, double T, McNittles, and the Italian Stallion busting out a new club record in the 4x800m at Illinois (10:32.7).
Clutch Performance: K Doogs running a respectable 12:16 in her 3000m debut which helped score points along with Margaret’s 2nd place 10:52. Did I mention she had barely run at all for over a month due to injury?
Most Important Anchor: Nicole Traitses’s 800m leg in the Sprint Medley Relay at Illinois which moved MSU from last to first in their heat. They placed 4th overall.
Biggest Laugh: Upstairs, Downstairs.
Breakout Race: Adam Terwillegar taking 3rd in the Mile at Penn State’s Happy Valley Invitational in 4:36.8 to set a new club record.
Best Workout: The 4 – 6 x 800m we ran the week after Penn State. Most everyone’s times were faster than when we ran this workout at the beginning of the season.
Best Sprint Race: Tom Eby and Andrew Crechiolo leaning at the finish line of the 200m at SVSU to finish back to back.
Best Jump: Sarah Mackenzie’s 2nd place winning High Jump of 1.45 meters (just over 4’9”) at Illinois.
Best Throw: Andrew’s 8.87 meter throw in the Shot Put at Illinois to set a new club record by over 1.5 meters.
Best Hurdle Race: Pat and Christian scoring in the 60m Hurdles (amongst many other events) at Illinois, having not practiced with hurdles at all.
Best Distance Race: Though they were spread out over several heats, our constant stream of lads from 4:42 to 5:00 in the Mile at Illinois.
MVP (Most Valuable Parents): Terwillegars, you take the cake this indoor season. Girbachs and Rileys, you’ve got some competition.
Now that indoor is wrapped up, we can finally start outdoor track! Here’s what the rest of the season looks like for the Spartans:
Saturday March 30th – Red Cedar Races, East Lansing, MI (club)
Friday April 5th – Sunday April 7th – NIRCA Spring Nationals, Bloomington, IN (club)
Friday April 19th & Saturday April 20th – EMU Twilight, Ypsilanti, MI (varsity)
Thursday April 25th & Friday April 26th – Hillsdale Gina Relays, Hillsdale, MI (varsity)
We encourage everyone, whether you are a club member, friend, or family member, to come out and support MSU RC this season, especially at our home meet on March 30th!
Go Green!
